POOL SAFETY FENCING Please note that you must have your new swimming pool fencing approved by your local council before you start building it. If you do everything according the council rules with height and all other safety requirements, then getting a “complying” form of development should not be that difficult at all and it could be approved in roughly 2 – 4 weeks on average. The Act states, that as a minimum, your pool fencing needs to be at least 1.2 metres high and it must restrict access to the public from outside the property. As of 1st of October 2008, prior to the sale of your property containing a swimming pool, you will need to ensure that your swimming pool safety features – no matter when the pool was built – are in line with specific requirements which apply to pools built on or after 1st of July 1993. The current pool fencing and boundary barriers may need to be upgraded to meet the current safety requirements from your local authorities.
